About this Talk

If you believe that everyone needs access to robust communication you will have heard the terms Modelling and Aided Language Stimulation. Is it really true that all we need to do is point to symbols whilst we speak? Yes it is, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t aim to use best practice and improve our technique over time.

This presentation will explore modelling according to the competencies for AAC as described by Janice Light, including the additional emotional as well as the original strategic, linguistic, operational and social competencies. Extended modelling techniques such as Observing, Responding, Scaffolding and Expanding, as described by Laura Jones, will also be discussed. Finally, the use of video as a tool to help improve practice will be discussed. To keep our AAC users progressing we need to keep progressing ourselves. This presentation will help keep you moving on.

This presentation is 75 minutes.
